Spotting an Energy Efficient Home In Metro Vancouver Just Got Easier

Metro Vancouver believes that tackling greenhouse gas emissions from homes is a critical part of the fight against climate change. Metro Vancouver is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 33% by 2020 and single-family homes are responsible for about 40% of the GHGs from buildings. To make real change consumers need the tools to make smarter decisions for their families and the environment. The goal of RateOurHome.ca is to create this awareness and make GHGs and energy use in homes more visible for everyone.

About

RateOurHome.ca is being run as a pilot program to assess the feasibility and interest in a home energy labelling information and disclosure website for Metro Vancouver residents. The pilot will help provide recommendations for offering a full scale program, including the roles and responsibilities of Metro Vancouver and other interested organizations.

Campaign design and implementation was guided by a steering committee comprised of staff from Local, Provincial and Federal Governments, Energy Utilities, Non Profits and Professional Associations.

The RateOurHome campaign is funded in part by the Homeowner Protection Office and Metro Vancouver and by a financial contribution from Natural Resources Canada from the Driving BC Demand for Energy Star for New Homes program.
